Equality and Diversity
Pivotal provide cutting edge training tailored to your institution. Sample agendas are available on request. We don't 'train and run', we build sustainable practice that works for the long term. All our training can be booked with coaching & mentoring. Equality and Diversity is a key area in all aspects of the Teaching and Learning experience. It is no longer enough to pay lip-service to the issues involved and expect that common sense will prevail. It will not.
Pivotal programmes address the following four key areas:
- The psychology of equality and differentiation.
It is a sound principle of learning that when a person understands the object of his or her learning, not only is that learning retained at a substantial level, but the ability to transfer that learning is also significantly increased. This is essential to something so pertinent, individual and emotional as Equality and Diversity. We explore the way in which we form attitudes and beliefs, construct stereotypes and respond to social and group pressure, thus determining the extent to which we are subjected to prejudice, bias and discrimination in our conscious and subconscious dealings with others. - Understanding equality and diversity
We look at Equality and diversity within the structure and process of teaching and learning. The importance and method of using and teaching appropriate language is developed alongside ways of creating positive and supportive working relationships. A large part of the unit provides a sound understanding of the basic issues involved in a wide range of situations in which equality and diversity can make a significant contribution. - Planning For Equality And Differentiation
We explore the way in which equality, diversity and differentiation can be implemented through good teaching practice and positive learning experiences. The organisation of the classroom and resources seeks to create an equality and diversity based learning environment. The differentiation of instruction, the support of adjustment and support needs, the selection of appropriate teaching and learning methods and techniques and the imaginative use of appropriate assessment techniques are considered and applied to the writing and implementation of lesson plans - Equality And Diversity Training For Students
We can address the student experience and understanding of equality and differentiation. The role and impact of procedures, policies, and rules are considered along with ways of making them more meaningful to students. Ways of implementing social and emotional learning programmes, appropriate language development and methods of creating peer based support and mentorship can be discussed. The role of group and individual tutorials can be assessed alongside, themes and activities and lessons from research. An exploration of the particular demands made upon understanding in the post modern world and the impact of the electronic creation of attitudes and beliefs
Each of these sections form a complete training experience in its own right, however the modules have been designed to be offered as:
- A sequenced four day training programme
- A full consecutive two day programme
- A hybrid one day programme
