"It was a very enjoyable and productive day, informative yet entertaining. Brilliant combination. It was delivered in a clear and enthusiastic manner that everyone regardless of position could understand. Sublime. I attended this session by default as I am a volunteer at the school and was not told it was an INSET day. They were surprised to see me and said I didn't need to stay as it would be another boring lecture with power point. How wrong could they have been? At break time they said 'This is so different, the trainer is engaging and the delivery is great'. Today I observed a trainee teacher who is doing his PGCE using the methods suggested on a class of disruptive boys who under achieve. It worked and he was in control of the learning environment. A huge improvement. Well done, Sir!"

“A quirky, relevant and thought provoking take on behaviour (students' and teachers'). Paul Dix is an unconventional juggler of behaviour lenses and strategies to help you reflect on your teaching. I liked the balance between ideas and practical hands-on strategies, the former are useful in the long term when you think about your approach to teaching and the latter are useful in the short term.”
Anne Lescalier, Queensbury Upper School

“The day was over before I realised and I had learnt so much. Leaving the practical application till the end and understanding the philosophy of the training in the morning was very, very helpful. I genuinely thought it was brilliant and has revolutionised how I teach. In one day I understood teaching in a whole new light, holistically, from philosophy to practical application my teaching has been revolutionised. Paul is very dynamic and engaging, a teaching Michael Macintrye. I had never seen how teaching can take a holistic approach, how philosophy can actually affect and drive towards a lasting practical change. From anecdotes, where you recognise yourself, to role play, where you try to put things into practise, this is a very empowering day and has genuinely changed my life. Like Paul said, improvising can be exhausting, and this day helps you start to leave old habits behind. I think Paul gently opens people up who maybe stuck in their ways and shows us how there can be change, and it is little by little. He helps us get back to why we became teachers.”

“The content was broad but concise. The trainer was an expert who's knowledge of the subject was vast. The trainer encouraged participation and allowed us to ask questions, of which he always had an answer. You can only deliver that through experience, and that was evident and why the course was a positive experience even though the subject can be quite daunting.”

Simon Goldberg, Lecturer in Computing, Boston College, Lincs

"Paul ran training for around a 100 teachers and classroom support staff at this Beacon Sixth form College. Sixth form colleges often have the reputation of being ‘blessed’ with mature, focused and well behaved young people – in comparison to schools. As we have an open access policy which means we ‘take a risk’ on many young people who have struggled at school – we are now experiencing a number of issues around challenging behaviour. This approach earned us a Grade 1 for Social and Educational Inclusion in our last Ofsted inspection and it is something we are very proud of. Paul also did a session with our vocational and level 2 staff on more advanced techniques – both sessions were very well received."
Julia Pollock, Staff Development Co-ordinator, John Leggott College, Scunthorpe, Lincs

Barbara Francis, Lecturer, Harrow College

"Paul was an excellent presenter and I particularly liked that he spoke from experience as a practitioner and not just a theorist. He made everyone think about their practice and many of the strategies he reminded us of or introduced were often simple in concept but very effective in practice. What I particularly came away with was the confirmation that despite the often challenging behaviour we experience in schools and colleges what most of our students and pupils want is to be listened to and treated with respect and not be discriminated against as a group but treated as individuals with views that are worthy of discussion even if we disagree with them!"
Jennie Davis, Teaching Assistant, Macclesfield College

"Paul Dix is a Superstar - I have learnt so much from this course. The best behaviour course I have been on. I have some great ideas for Sept - Can't wait to use them. Paul keeps you engaged the whole day!"
Natalie Amos, Lecturer, West Herts College

"I am always skeptical when attending these sort of courses, the trainer usually drones on and on about topics we all ready know, this was not the case with Paul. I must admit this is one of, if not the best course I have been on, and I would not hesitate to recommend your company to others."
Trevor Drury, Lecturer, Wilberforce College

"The course was extremely stimulating and used current legislation and recent classroom examples to look at relevant issues in behaviour management. The training was proactive and practical – not just sitting and listening as so many training sessions are. The use of role-play was excellent and helped me see situations from the student’s perspective. Since the course, I have altered my body language when talking to young people and consciously think about how I speak to them. I found the course very useful."
Stephanie Walsh, Bedford College

"Just to say that the course I attended on Monday was most helpful and inspirational. No time was wasted as the delivery was brisk and to the point. I have been teaching in further and higher education for over 20 years and in that time have attended numerous seminars, but Monday's course was one of the most informative and useful. "

An excellent training session that more than met my needs. This training was much better than other events I have attended"

Anne Dunkley, Staff Development Officer, Dewsbury College

"Enlightening and thought provoking. Important matters and situations were discussed. There was something of interest and help for everyone. Most people could identify in some way with the various topics of discussion, and it would be difficult not to learn something new as a result of this course."
Rosemary Wallis, Librarian, Godalming College

"The training was very motivating. The content was relevant, interesting and helpful and was delivered in an enthusiastic manner by a competent and professional trainer who had a host of experience to share. The best training I have attended this year, by far. Thank you!"

"I would like to say that the training session was great stuff. The whole session had something for everyone and was very real. "I've done fourteen years in the TA infantry, fifteen years on building sites and now I teach kids from deprived areas of Derbyshire how to become bricklayers. I thought I had it sussed using military training techniques and common sense - remain cool, be fair, firm and friendly, see things on the learners' level. I didn't realise there was so much more that could be done, and for so little cost in effort. Great seminar!"
Derek Stanton, Lecturer, South East Derbyshire College

"This was my day off but I thought attending would be beneficial. How right I was, an outstanding, motivating and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Excellent!"
Cathy Elson, Lecturer, Tamworth and Lichfield College

"Clearly Dr Davison knows what he's talking about and is able to convey relevant information with anecdotal interludes which assist understanding. I was very tired, after a long year and a demanding week, when I entered the session. It wasn't long before I perked up and my attention was held. I'm glad I had the opportunity to attend. This is the first staff training this year that has been relevant and enjoyable."
Lynne Brindley, Lecturer, Thurrock and Basildon College

"This guy [Paul Dix] is full of useful information and ideas. A really enjoyable session, loads of valuable ideas and suggestions to work on to develop behaviour management. Examples were relevant to our own experience and really provided thought on different ways to handle behaviour in class. Most relevant and useful staff development session I have been on – would recommend and a follow up/review session would be useful."
Delegate from West Nottinghamshire College

"The training was delivered in a style which was plain and easy to understand. The content, delivery and leanings towards psychology suited me personally.
I feel that it's important to constantly reassess one's teaching. A lot of staff in the College stress about things they could easily change by implementing some of the methods used in the training."
Neil Ellison, Lecturer, Merton College

"I enjoyed it being an open course where we heard everybody's experiences I felt I gained a lot from this. I feel this was a very well organised course, very relaxed and easy to get involved.
Thank you very much."
Samantha Weir, Beauty Therapy-part time lecturer, The Colchester Institute

"I thought the trainer was a fantastic teacher, he has really inspired me to want to become a teacher and would love to have more help from him and him be my tutor. Shame he is not at our institute."
Amy Macfarlane, Learndirect Administrator, The Colchester Institute

"A light in the darkness."
Vivienne Hulme, Link Support/TA, Barnet College

"I thought Paul delivered the session in an interesting way, it was not boring! Perhaps some of the content was more geared towards teachers, but this was only minimal and understand Paul cannot fine tune the session to every individuals needs. I enjoyed the course, I was expecting it to be a waste of time but it was quite the opposite! It was Innovative, fun and interesting. Paul was clear, professional and experienced and took into account comments made by course attendees. I really enjoyed the day and would like to thank Paul for this."
Caroline Ryder, Student Support Admin Officer, John Leggott College

"The training was interesting, relevant and useful. Chris was effective, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this and could have listened to Chris talk for so much longer. One of the great things was that he is so passionate about this and it is obvious that he has huge knowledge about this subject and truly believes in his strategies as they are proven by experience. I really feel that I could always listen to training on this subject; I firmly believe that you can never know too much - there is always more to learn. There are still people around who simply don't realise that you can/how to turn students behaviour around, and that there are often very simple reasons for bad behaviour."
Penny Ellison, Learning Assistant, Chichester College

"I thought the trainer was very knowledgeable and experienced in the field, this meant that he was able to draw on his experiences and give examples of his own personal experiences which made the subject more interesting."
Victoria Lidster, Business Administration and Enterprise Lecturer, Derwentside College

"Helen was so professional and involved everyone in the session and kept everyone's attention. The whole package was perfect. Helen really knew her subject and was passionate about it which came across in her delivery. This was the best training by far. It was excellent, very informative and fun! I thoroughly enjoyed the training session. The trainer was very interesting and professional and I loved her style of delivery."
Kaye Willis, Work Experience Co-ordinator 14-19 Team, Boston College

"Obviously very experienced. Barry has good sense of humour. It provided me with additional tips on how to alter my behaviour when dealing with low level disruption. He was knowledgeable, funny guy whom I would like to sit next to at work. You can never get enough of behaviour management."
Sonnie Howson, Lecturer, Richmond-Upon-Thames College

"The trainer was obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and was able to cover a range of issues. In other training sessions attended, the trainer has not delivered with the same amount of passion and conviction. The training was relaxed, informative and at the right level. The trainer was knowledgeable, approachable and willing to help with and discuss problems experienced."
Pat Hobday, Skills For Life Lecturer, City of Sunderland College

"The training was enlightening and fun as well as having a very serious purpose. It was one of the best training I have ever been on! Excellent - right up there at the top! Serious behaviour management input/discussion/ anecdote to illustrate points & strategies developed to use with learners - delivered with a quirky twist which made it fun. Barry was professional in his approach, obviously well prepared, knowledgeable, flexible in terms of dealing with a tricky session space, empathetic and obviously a 'people person' with a nice line in quirky humour to keep the activities and responses of his disparate audience humming along.I have been to a huge number of training days at UH, at conferences all over the world, at huge variety of venues and would be hard put to find more than a handful I had enjoyed as much or learnt as much from as this particular training session - More please!"
Libby Byne-Grey, Cross College Literacy Learning support Tutor, Hertford Regional College

"The activities, pitch of the 'pep talk', summarizing of collective conclusions drawn from the activities, anecdotes and replies to questions were useful & illuminating. This one was excellent. I think it was made as effective as it was by the complementary skills of the two trainers. It was illuminating, thought-provoking & instructive beyond all my expectations."
Julia Seton, Lecturer in Communications, Tower Hamlets College

"The training was entertaining (a good "hook") and ranks as one of the best (in 33 years in teaching). It was effective, thought provoking, and packed with common sense. Paul, except for the accent, he could have been an east-ender! The above comment refers to his engaging style, brimming with confidence."
Steve Harold, Key Skills Lecturer, Exeter College

"It was so refreshing to attend an event where every part of it was stimulating and relevant - of course the dynamic presentation enhanced this enormously. I couldn't fault it. I only planned to attend the morning session, but enjoyed it so much I stayed for the rest. I have a short attention span, so to hold me for 6 hours confirms how good it was. I have to say that's the best training session I've ever attended. Outstanding. Paul was well informed, with the rare gift to keep us all focused and engaged for the entire session."
Ken Heritage, Lead Tutor, Faculty of Humanities, Exeter College

"The variety of presentation methods was engaging. 'Dipped' into handout but encouraged to read fully for further detail. The training really made me think about the way I do things/approach potential situations which could blow up. I would have loved it to be a full day of training with more practical demonstration/role play I certainly enjoyed the training - thank you! I can say without doubt that it was the most engaging training course I've ever completed. I've never found a course so interesting or come away from a course so fired up. The strange thing was, most of the course content was commonsense, but it was affirming of that whilst also inspirational. Affirming commonsense practice in a fun and inspirational way! The treiner was obviously very experienced - would have loved to be a fly on his classroom wall!"
Helen Churchill, Learning Advisor in the Department of Children, Care and Health, Derby College

"I have attended many Equality & Diversity sessions over the years and this one was the most informative and useful of them all. Bite size information points. Miller was excellent with a sound knowledge and obvious passion on the subject."
Lindsey Humphrey, Payroll Manager, Huntingdonshire College

"The training was very informative and presented in such a way you could appreciate a little of what it is like to have this disability. Whilst an excellent training a full day would have given an opportunity to touch on aspects that could only be put in handout form. Even though this was very informative. I enjoyed the training very much, it has put into perspective things I didn't understand about the subject. The enthusiasm of trainer was infectious! Excellent!"
Georgina Lenton, Student Support Assistant, Warwickshire College

"Everything was fine. Effective training with an efficient and organised trainer. Knowledgeable and efficient tutor. A well prepared and well delivered session. Very enjoyable."
Dawn E. Walker, IT Trainer, Salford College

"All aspects were enjoyable and relevant. Thought provoking - including a range of activities and stimuli designed to accommodate different learning styles and maintain the attention of the audience. Professional and knowledgeable, personable, experienced and IT competent."
Fiona Wood, Curriculum Development Manager, Halesowen College

"Absolutely loved it! I learnt things and the trainer's humility and understanding shone through! This was the best training ever! Awesome. The trainer was enigmatic, inspirational and a great role model and teacher. I wanted more....the day previous I had been disappointed at attending another college presentation and the lack of passion and realism, there was no connection the day before. This however was a complete difference the full bag of mashings so to speak. I would love to learn more from The trainer and develop under his wing in other presentations he may give? A wealth of experience and deep breadth of knowledge, I have already started implementing some of his ideas and tips and I loved the way he shared his concerns about lesson objectives etc, etc."
Mark Harrop, Lecturer Key Skills, Rotherham College

"Very well, there was a lot of practical easy to apply good advice. More refreshing than half a pint of lager on a sunny day. Bull's eye, hit the target all the time."
Andy Reeves, PAL, MidKent College

"The course was superb. Perhaps the biggest step towards delivering excellence that the college has taken in a long time. Infectious energy and passion for the subject enabled us all to greatly benefit from the day. It was very refreshing to attend a training session that did not focus on attendance and retention figures as being the only two factors important in achieving excellence. It was also refreshing to see personalised and individual target setting being advocated - in that way the student review process begins to have some real meaning and purpose rather than 'just ticking another box'. I think that all my colleagues who were not present should attend the training session in the future to ensure a consistent approach to target setting and the delivery of excellence across the college."
Ian Scott-Garrett, Lecturer in Law, Shrewsbury College

"Fantastic - raved to every one about it."
Sarah -Jane Lockwood, Assessor, Carshalton College

"Miller was passionate and extremely knowledgeable. He made his session real to life. Didn't dwell too much on the theories, more on his experiences. Excellent!"
Julie Mountford, 14-19 Curriculum Quality Manager, Stockport College

"The training was fun, informative and thought provoking. The trainer, Miller Thomson, was interesting, experienced and inspiring for a can do approach. So interesting leaving me wanting to know more. This training should be 'compulsory' for staff teaching 14 -19 learners. Also very useful for support staff/mentors."
Diane Towey, Gifted and Talented co-ordinator, Stockport College

"Barry was straight talking and his directed questioning stretched the learner. He was humorous and experienced. The training was really practical and relevant to my job as a lecturer. Love it! It will make a difference to my teaching next term. Thank you for an excellent session, would that all staff training be of this quality!"

We'll get our whole organisational approach and there will be no more teachers (and learners) struggling through lessons!"

The trainer is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced - a seasoned practititioner. It was an effective training day which gave me lots of useful tips on how to manage behaviour."
Sarah Hammett, Totton Sixth Form College

"The training gave you a taste for more information. Barry was very approachable, entertaining, reflective and intuitive practitioner. Barry enjoyed learning himself this helped him to encourage learners to learn and maybe his experiences had helped him understand the hurdles and barriers that prevent learning from taking place. I could identify with him and feel we need more practitioners like Barry to encourage learners with low self esteem to succeed."
Cathie Lowe, P/T Beauty Lecturer, Cirencester College

"Fantastic session which gave me a better understanding. The trainer was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed it! Just the right length, fabulous course notes to read though and a great deal of knowledge by the tutor."

The Active Maths session which you held for us, and Paul's session on behaviour management have been two of the most influential training events I've attended since becoming a teacher 4 years ago. Thanks again."

A very positive experience that brings the theory and practice of positive behaviour management together. A motivational whirlwind of positivity. Excellent use of role play, practical demonstrations through video clips and juggling (!) to make points that can be directly related to our practice and our interactions - with colleagues and students alike."
Alison Tonkin, Programme Area Manager for HE, Stanmore College

"Raised many interesting points, though timeframe was too short for proper review of approaches. Paul Dix is confident and forthright, a little too much showmanship perhaps, which may have got in the way sometimes when exploring the substance of the ideas. Entertaining and thought provoking; motivating teachers to focus upon themselves when seeking to change others' behaviour, which is spot on in my view and experience; more emphasis on successful /measurable outcomes in specific educational sites/institutions would have given even more weight to the approaches highlighted in the session and handbook. That said, this was a condensed session from the normal duration, so perhaps a specific half day training session needs to be designed to ensure that only a limited number of things are explored within a reasonable space of time by the trainer/trainees - allowing for future sessions to be run at a later date that build upon the initial stages layout in the shorter session. Overall, very good - and will change elements of my practice for the better. Thank you."
Steve Hannon, Senior Tutor, Stanmore College

Rachel Jones, Full time lecturer Beauty/Therapy, Bridgend College

"The training day was one of the best I have experienced at City College Plymouth, Chris Sweeney made the session thought provoking and relaxing without feeling the need to make the trainees perform like monkeys as other sessions do, i.e. making people introduce themselves, making people do 'role' playing activities, I think Chris understood that 99% of people do not want to be put on the 'spot' at a training day and he delivered the subject perfectly with the trainees participation on their terms."
Michael Coombs, Learning Support, City College Plymouth

"It was an excellent course that confirmed how important the concomitant curriculum is in the achievement of learning. An excellent example of diversity in learning. Thought it was delivered very well and the subject knowledge from the trainer, helped highlight the things we can be doing to help teach and manage behaviour in our classroom. I also thought the material was very interesting and well presented."
Cheryl Plume, Senior Lecturer, Lewisham College

"I thought the training was excellent and couldn't say that there was anything about it that I enjoyed least. It was excellent; it inspired and motivated me for the coming term and made me reassess and make changes to my classroom management. Chris was interesting; made very good judgements on pace and used appropriate mix of personal anecdote and professional views. I think this training would benefit all staff in this institution - an inner city FE college."
Susan Allen, Lecturer, Lewisham College

"The training was exciting and enjoyable, really informative. Paul Dix is knowledgeable and able to communicate with many different people from different backgrounds."
Kerry Pickering, Mobility and Independence Teacher, Three Counties PDP

"The training encouraged us to proactively come up with solutions that we know can work, rather than be told potential solutions that probably won't work. By far the best training I have received while at the college. It really helped me to think in a different way about how to approach the issues we are faced with on a daily basis, and how we can react appropriately to the situation, rather than get stressed! Even if you only talk to one student a week, you need this training!!"
Rachel Coleman, Careers Assistant, Chichester College

"The training made you think about all the errors you make when dealing with students! I enjoyed the day and the activities we had to take part in were good, tend to dread activities at such events as they tend to be team building type things - YUCK! These related to the theory of the course so were useful."
Kim Mcintosh, Lecturer, Angus College

"It was a very worthwhile training. The trainer is a knowledgeable man who delivered session with enthusiasm. The training let me see tried and tested practices - this is what I need to help me with my job. It was great!"
Amanda Craig, Learning Technology Suite Officer, Angus College

"I always look forward to Pivotal development days and you never fail to deliver. This session was fantastic, there were times I felt the trainer had read my mind. It is fascinating and inspiring to be part of a large session with a softly spoken trainer who kept me engaged and inspired throughout. The session was well structured and kept me engaged at all times. The subject was relevant to my work at this moment. I loved the short activities within the session and the information pack, inspired by the trainer and would love to have had a video of the session so I could refer and watch back later. Thank you!"
Joanne Maher, Lecturer & Course Leader, Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College

"The trainer, Darrell Williams, was very in tune and amusing. I have gained a great insight into what I should do and also what I do. I'm going to get a book."
Hazel Matthews, Course Leader for 14-16 provision, Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College

"The training was practical but also entertaining. Chris is engaging, empathic and knowledgeable."
Roberto Palma Forjan, South Thames College

"Had an excellent day of training. Darrell was an inspiring trainer."
Nigel Evans, Lecturer, Stoke on Trent College

"The session was excellent. I have been on behaviour management training before and some of the ideas were revisited but I did come away with many new ones. Chris delivered the training with enthusiasm and obviously enjoyed the session too. He was aware of audience participation but did not put anyone on the spot causing embarrassment. I came away from the training feeling refreshed and confident that I could put all of the ideas into practice. I would certainly recommend this training to anyone working with students and I hope we can have more of this kind of training in the future. Thank you, an outstanding training session."
Lorraine Wilson, Course Tutor - Level 2 Childcare and Education, North East Worcestershire College

"The training gives me some tools to work with in a potentially difficult area. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Came away knowing that I can use a lot of what I was taught. Chris was very likeable and obviously knew his subject well."
Chris Cruickshank, I.T. Lecturer, North East Worcestershire College

"The training was detailed, enjoyable and useful. The trainer was lively, engaging and had an excellent subject knowledge."
Clare Duffy, Head of English, Uppingham Community College

"This was an inspiring and relevant training session, with good materials and practical activities for the delegates. Rebecca Martin, Tutor, Calderdale College

"This training was very effective in highlighting the current issues of motivation."
Mayamin Altae, Tutor, Calderdale College

"The training was thorough, practical and intriguing."
Katherine Bowen, Sports Lecturer, Calderdale College

"The course presented a useful way to approach negative classroom behaviour. It stresses the importance of allowing mistakes into the learning environment. Too often we focus on students "giving the right answer." Fear of not being able to supply this is demotivating and makes learners risk averse. Unfortunately the same is often true for teachers. We sometimes avoid attempting new approaches because we're afraid we'll fail. I think this course has encouraged me to take more risks myself and encourage my students to do the same."
Anna Best, Lecturer in English as a Foreign Language, Calderdale College

"I really enjoyed the session; it encouraged thinking about behaviour and helped staff to think about both the positive and negative behaviour taking place in school."
Helen Downing, Head of Learning Support, South Holderness Technology College

"This training answers a lot of questions about behaviour and illuminates a way forward. Paul (Michael McIntyre) is a very knowledgeable person with great insight who know how to capture an audience and plant the right ideas to develop. This was an excellent day. As mentioned before a lot to gain from the training. I would say an area to improve would be getting the people to do more behaviour orientated activities and small group sessions or workshops to follow."
Ali Javed, Science Teacher, South Holderness Technology College

"An interesting way of defining and dealing with misbehaviour. Paul Dix is good at captivating the audience and making the training interesting. He gave you ideas of dealing with behaviour in unusual yet effective ways. I also enjoyed the group tasks."
Danielle Smith, GTP student, South Holderness Technology College

"Engaging delivery, covering sometimes challenging topics to give resources and skills to practise. Barry Stay has an amusing and personable style of imparting experience and with the right amount of challenge and support. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. There was a balance of theory and activity work centred around an agenda of improvement. Thank you."
Delegate from Westergate Community College

"An amazing insight to behaviour management! Paul Dix is a great person with experience - very inspiring. This was a great session one which I felt very inspired from - lots of information and advice. When I left I though wow - I want to do that. I think all of the staff, including teachers and senior staff, should attend this session - not just the teaching assistants - then at least we would all be doing the same thing."
Helen Mornington, Teaching Assistant, Sidney Stringer Academy

"Paul Dix is hilarious. He really knew what he was delivering. It was the perfect time and perfect training for me. It was so, so helpful. It has really changed my way of thinking, style of teaching as a PGCE student. More importantly it has changes me as a mother."

"I liked everything about the training - first training session I have had that I have totally been riveted to! Riveting, wealth of information and an enjoyable experience. I discussed our situation with Paul at the end of the training and will be in contact in the future regarding possible further training and guidance."

Pauline Naughton, Additional Learning Support, Riverside College

"The training was a refreshing and innovative take on theories that are pretty much old hat. Paul Dix is easy to feed off his energy - I am truly inspired by him! As soon as I came home from the training I emailed all of my peers on my PGCE course to tell them about the course. I personally think you should endeavour to go into universities to talk to students doing PGCE's. We sit there day after day in boring mind numbing lectures (which we've already experienced in the 3 years of our degree, and 2 years of an MA for myself!) but this course was a refreshing change - it woke me up. I listened and learnt more than I have the entire time I've been doing my PGCE Thank you so much, you made sense of everything I've just been 'taught' in my DETL's. I wish I could have been your student Paul, I would no longer be a B/2:1/Merit student - I would be achieving my full potential! Your students are very lucky!"
Chloe Hynes, Trainee Art Teacher, Riverside College

"The training got you involved very quickly. Darrell is nuts and energetic! Found the session extremely useful and liked the way that techniques were used within the session which demonstrated their effectiveness. I got a lot out of the whole day. Thank you!"
Mandy Seldon, Lecuturer, City of Bath College

"I fully enjoyed the course. The course was very exciting and varied, I believe the tips I gained from the training can be used in real life practical situations. The course was excellent, I really enjoyed how the trainer implemented tasks for the groups to complete. Every thing the trainer said always related back to the topic. He was a delight to listen to and kept the trainees glued to the session. I also loved the drama the trainer used, something which I had never seen used before. I believe everyone should have been involved in behaviour training, because learning about the behaviour of children is a life long process. Even if you do not directly work with children, the tips learnt I believe are invaluable."
Caph, Receptionist, The Limes College

"The training had me on the edge of my seat wanting more. Paul gave me the tools and good understanding of how I could deal with certain student I work with them."

Bill Gribble exudes empathy for both learner and teacher, and he presents the case for a positive approach with a wicked sense of humour. Online Courses

"I found it good that staff I work with were on the course at the same time so we were putting our new found knowledge into practise in the classroom together and consistently."
Lesley Whitaker, Teaching Assistant, North Shore Health Academy

"At first I was a little sceptical about the course, however as the course went on I found myself being drawn in and really being reflective. The course has certainly made me reflect on my practice. Well done."

"I found the course enlightening. I would recommend the course to any teacher working in difficult circumstances."
Paul Johnson, HOD Religious Education, North Shore Health Academy

"Sensible and practical advice presented in an accessible manner. Many of the tactics produce "quick wins", with students, others remind us of things that take a little more effort and upkeep, but that build into a positive spiral of behaviours and relationships. Lots of new ideas and tips alongside affirmation of tactics that many people are already using successfully."
Sandra Brannan, Course Tutor with NEET learners, Carlise College

"Absolutely brilliant!! Wonderful to see such practical help for dealing with difficult, challenging learners. Really down to earth useful strategies to use - I would recommend it. It will save a great deal of stress and soul-searching in the coming Academic Year. Also reassuring to know that I'm not on my own in this and that other teaching staff have similar challenges to my own. Thank you."

Fahima Khan, Chemistry teacher, Claremont High School

"Very good value for money indeed, and lots of support if needed and great feedback on assignments, all done very quickly and effectively. I really enjoyed the video downloads from Paul, as well as other useful inclusions from YouTube. I really loved the Vicki Pollard spoof, because it is just so realistic and we all know a "Vicki" personality!! Really funny, but the Tutor just kept on the subject and was not swayed at all - brilliant example!! More please!! Some more humour please!! I know that behaviour management is a serious business but the Vicki Pollard spoof made me laugh out loud but I was also able to relate it - as were my work colleagues when I showed them the spoof."
Susan Dalgarno, Additional Learning Support Tutor, Eastleigh College

Taking Care of Behaviour online course delegate

"I’m so pleased to have passed this course! It is a very valued certificate in my current role and although lengthy, I really enjoyed the tasks.
I have to say it has helped me a lot and I have seen a difference in the students I work with. Incidentally, the boy in my case study made it all worthwhile at the end of term when he turned to me during an ICT lesson and simply said 'You’re awesome Miss!'. I answered by saying 'Well, you’ve helped me too and it shows that we can learn from each other. Never be afraid to ask for help - you know I will help you if you need me to.' He said thank you and beamed!"
Lynne Garraway, The Dukeries College

"I thought that the content of the safeguarding course was by far the best and the most in depth content I have trained with in my 10 years of teaching. It was very informative and some of the content was new information for me which was a surprise. There were a few technical problems along the way but Ellie was super efficient and they were dealt with immediately. It was great to be able to study at my own pace and complete the course around existing commitments.
Overall the safeguarding training was an excellent course which I would highly recommend to anyone."
Sarah Daniels, Coventry

"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the course and how useful and insightful it has been . Without sounding incredibly cheesy it really has been the most useful developmental course I have undertaken for many years. Please share my thoughts with the team. I was thrilled to receive my certificate and am considering taking on a masters. Once again many thanks to Pivotal, its been great."
Caroline Glorioso, Curriculum Manager for Business and Teacher Training, School of Business and Professional Studies, South Nottinghamshire College

Books and Tips

"This book [Taking Care of Behaviour] is comprehensive and practical and provides teachers with immediate help in dealing with disruptive behaviour... [Paul Dix] manages to address the issues and offer workable solutions that leave you wondering why you hadn't tried it before; such is the simplicity of his advice...This book offers a concrete plan of action based on techniques of self evaluation and social interaction. This is highly recommended reading for NQTs and has much to offer even the seasoned practitioner; it provides simple clear advice on how to be the 'best' kind of teacher."
Gillian Long, TES Website, Jan 2008

"Helpful advice on involving parents and managing extreme behaviour...Sensible, consistently practical and reassuring"
Taking Care of Behaviour Review, Times Educational Supplement, May 2007

"This is such a comprehensive book and very readable. It's clearly laid out with a consistent format and an index, which makes it easy to find specific and relevant information. With meaningful quotes, clearly defined anecdotal examples, actions to take, exercises, key ideas if you just want a quick pointer and action plans it ticked all the boxes for me. The approach is so reasonable and pupil centered and all about relationships. I also like the way it examines teacher behaviours and it made me reflect on the messages many other aspects of my school were giving to children. It has made me much more conscious of my ability to control situations. This book is a really useful working tool with space for notes and stuff on the CD to print out to support positive action."
Zofia Karol, Landford School, Wiltshire, England

"…senior staff and TAs…were all very impressed by the idea of a book specifically for teaching assistants"
"I definitely think that there is a need for this book to aid the teaching assistant, both in and out of the classroom"
